Urinary blockages are often treated by running a urinalysis; sedating, unblocking, and inserting a urinary catheter for 2-3 days; giving IV fluids, pain medication, and antibiotics; and performing X-rays to look for stones or crystals.
Urinary Blockage
- Straining to urinate
- Frequent small urinations
- Blood in the urine
- Painful urination
- Inappropriate urination (breaking house training)
- Crying, restlessness, or hiding because of discomfort
- Loss of appetite
- Vomiting
- Lethargy
Urinary Track Infection
- Frequent urination
- Breaking housetraining
- Blood in urine
- Dribbling urine
- Crying out while urinating
- Straining to urinate
- Frequently or obsessively licking the genital area
If your pet has a urinary tract infection, the usual treatment plan includes a urinalysis, antibiotics, and potentially X-rays to check for stones or crystals.
